Powdered Sugar Topped Chocolate Cake

Simple cake decorating with powdered sugar and negative space.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 (I usually add a little more) cup dark cocoa 
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 baking powder
  • 1 1/2 baking soda
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 tea vanilla
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2-3 tablespoons of powdered sugar (for cake top)

 

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine all of the dry ingredients.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla to the dry ingredients.
  4. Stir in bowling water.
  5. Grease and flour two round pans.
  6. Pour into pans.
  7. Bake 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let cakes cool.
  9. Cut out shapes from card stock and arrange on cake.
  10. Place powdered sugar in sifter and sift over cake top.
  11. Carefully remove shapes from cake top to reveal your design.
