Spice Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

My favorite Spice Cake recipe.


Recipe for Spice Cake


  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tea baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tea baking powder
  • 1 tea ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tea ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tea ground cloves
  • 1/4 tea ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup softened butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tea vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups milk



  1. Grease and flour 2 8 x 1 1/2 inch round cake pans.
  2. Stir together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger. Set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl beat butter, sugar, and vanilla.
  4. Mix in eggs 1 at a time.
  5. Alternately add milk and flour mixture until combined.
  6. Pour into prepared pans.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min or until a wooden tooth pic comes out clean.
  8. Cool before frosting.

*Its not necessary but I like to line my pans with parchment when I make cookies and cakes. For cakes I make the parchment rounds up in advance, its easier to make a dozen at once and store rather then to do it when your in the midst of baking.


Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe


  • 4 oz. softened cream cheese
  • 1 /4 cup softened butter
  • 2 tea vanilla
  • 3-4 cups of powdered sugar Sift the sugar for lump free frosting.


  1. Beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla with a mixer until fluffy.
  2. Slowly add the powdered sugar until you reach the desired consistency.

* You can double the recipe if you like a heavier frosted cake. 8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup butter, 2 tea vanilla, 5-6 cups of powdered sugar.
